By Plan Tier
The most predictable NPS pattern in SaaS: individual users score highest, team plans score moderately, and enterprise accounts score lowest. This is not because enterprise products are worse — it is because enterprise deployment introduces organizational complexity (IT requirements, compliance review, change management) that creates friction independent of product quality.
Individual and team-plan users chose the product and use it directly. Enterprise users often have the product chosen for them by procurement, IT, or management. Their NPS reflects their experience of having a tool imposed, not their assessment of the tool’s quality. This distinction matters enormously for how you interpret and act on enterprise NPS data.
By Feature Adoption Level
Segment customers by how many core features they actively use (define “active use” rigorously — logins alone are insufficient). You will almost certainly find a threshold effect: customers using fewer than X core features score 10-20 points lower than those using more than X. The threshold varies by product, but the pattern is remarkably consistent.
This segmentation tells you whether your NPS problem is about product quality or product adoption. If light users score poorly while heavy users score well, the problem is not your product — it is your ability to drive adoption of the features that create satisfaction. That is a different problem with different solutions.
By ARR Band
NPS by revenue band reveals whether your most valuable customers are your most satisfied. In an ideal world, these would correlate. In practice, they often do not. High-ARR customers may have more complex needs, higher expectations, and more negotiating leverage, all of which can depress scores relative to smaller accounts.
The strategic risk here: if your highest-ARR customers are your least satisfied, your revenue concentration creates a compounding vulnerability. A small number of enterprise detractors churning can wipe out the expansion revenue from dozens of SMB promoters.

The quantitative answer to “Why did you score us a 7?” is almost always some variant of “It’s fine, it works.” The qualitative answer — accessible only through follow-up interviews that probe beneath surface satisfaction — reveals the specific gaps between “works” and “indispensable” that represent your expansion opportunity.
Connecting NPS to Expansion Revenue
The most sophisticated SaaS companies have moved past using NPS as a retention predictor and started using it as an expansion predictor.
